A program of events are organized by the Society, which includes runs to places of interest, treasure hunts, static rallies and our own Classic Show and Autojumble which takes place at Queen Elizabeth Country Park on the first weekend of June. This event usually draws up to 300 exhibitors and 150 autojumble stalls every year.

Click here to open the SHVPS calendar which lists events for 2011. The calendar is normally updated around the first of each month.  The Society’s monthly magazine will also keep you up to date on the current events.

Club Night - Lysses Hotel

Thursday 9th Feburary

Our entertainment for the February club night takes the form of two films; the first part of the evening will be a viewing of some old footage of SHVPS members, and their vehicles, taken in the 1970’s.

Chris and Chalky have managed to get a number of old video clips compiled onto three DVD’s. However, as there are hours of footage on these disks, we will break it down into smaller chunks and spread it over a number of club nights. There is some interesting hill-climb footage to be enjoyed; Clive Brown has kindly offered to describe the events and identify members of that era.

The second part of the evening will feature some very early, and possibly rare, Rootes Group promotional footage from the early 1900’s until the mid 1940’s. This old film provides a little history of how the Rootes family started the development of their business before becoming a manufacturing giant. The footage also covers Rootes’ exploits into helping the war effort, and the development of their Ryton factory.

Keep your eyes open, you may be on camera.  7:30 for 8:00pm

Club Night - Lysses Hotel

Thursdy 8th March

Peking to Paris. Talk and film show by David Spurling about his his trials and tribulations during the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge

The route from China passed through Mongolia, then into Russia and westwards to the Ukraine, Poland and Europe on route to the triumphal finish in Paris.   7:30 for 8:00pm Start

The History:  In 1907 the first-ever trans-Continental motor-rally between Peking and Paris became an epic challenge between a Prince and a Pauper – Prince Borghese had the best funded entry and carefully researched the conditions of setting out on a journey where the first 5,000 miles saw no roads, at all, so, no maps and no garages. His chief rival was a fair-ground worker who until he read news of the race in a Paris newspaper, Le Matin, picked up blowing in the wind, had never even sat in a motor-car, so had no idea how to drive one.
